Course Outcomes:

 

CO1: Acquire knowledge of the advantage of compensation and will learn several aspects such as description, operation and characteristics of Thyristor-based FACTS devices: Static VAR Compensator (SVC), Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC), Thyristor Controlled Braking Resistor and Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) Switch.

CO2: Acquire knowledge of the operation and applicability of Voltage Source Converters and their realization details for implementation in FACTS Devices.

CO3: Analyze different possible applications of FACTS devices in order to improve stability and for achieving better voltage regulation along with the applicability of these as a solution provider for power quality problems in distribution networks.

CO4: Acquire the knowledge of custom power device DSTATCOM, classification of DSTATCOM, different topological realizations, operation control of DSTATCOM and reference current extraction paradigm based on Synchronous Reference Frame Theory.

CO5: Acquire the knowledge of custom power devices for voltage power quality problems (DVR, UPQC) and for current power quality problems (UPQC), different topological aspects of DVR and UPQC, principle of operation of these devices along with control paradigms.
