Noted author, lyricist, screenwriter, journalist and an eminent participant at the prestigious Jaipur Literature Festival, Mr. Neelesh Misra visited SKIT, Jaipur on 24 January, 2013. Talking about his life and work, Mr. Neelesh Misra, recounted his life story. He told students of SKIT, Jaipur about the importance to follow one’s heart and the need to think big.
Mr. Misra talked about his early journalism days and how he enrolled for journalism after having grown averse to science and administrative services. He particularly singled out the contribution of his parents in supporting his choice of career as an important milestone in his success story. Talking to SKIT students, he recounted his numerous contributions to literature and mainstream cinema. Thus, stressing the need to remain creative and persuasive as the key ingredient to succeed in life.
SKIT students engaged specifically in discussions concerning the lyricist’s recent work in Bollywood song writing, even urging Mr. Misra to engage in the rendition of his hit songs. Dr. S.L. Surana, Director at SKIT, while delivering his vote of thanks remarked that Mr. Misra is from the breed of authors that have redefined the stereotypical image of litterateurs, lyricists and authors. The SKIT director singled out and commended the author’s efforts to remain true and professional towards his work thereby avoiding the lure of writing what’s popular and that which sells.
Mr. Neelesh Misra also sensitized SKIT students to the fact that not all has been rosy and he has had his share of tests and hardships in life. He particularly recounted his journalism days where while covering the Kargil war and later the Tsunami, he has had life threatening incidences.
SKIT, Jaipur and Mr. Neelesh Misra share the common objective of connecting the rural masses with the mainstream. Whereas, the author is engaged in bringing forth the true character of rural India through his rural newspaper- Gaon connection, SKIT Jaipur engages closely with the rural masses in close proximity to Jaipur through its rural schooling initiative and is thus committed to Gramothan.
The event was co-hosted at SKIT Jaipur by its entrepreneurship club TOPAZ and the Toastmasters club. SKIT students from TOPAZ were specifically inquisitive to know how authors and lyricists survive financially in the initial part of their professional journey. Toastmasters club at SKIT with its natural interest in literature and public speaking carried through the day’s event.
Mr. Neelesh Misra is an author having written acclaimed books such as ‘The Absent State’, ‘Once upon a Timezone’, 173 hours in captivity’, End of the Line: the story of the killing of the royals in Nepal’. He has written numerous chartbusters such as ‘Jaadu hai Nasha hai’ (Jism), ‘Lamha lamha’ (Gangster), ‘Bepanah pyar hai’ (Krishna Cottage), ‘Abhi kuch dino se’ (Dil toh bachha hai ji), ‘Humko pyar hua’ (Ready), ‘I love you’ (Bodyguard), ‘Banjaara’ (Ek tha Tiger), ‘Kyon’ (Barfi) and many others and has written the screen play for the super hit Bollywood film ‘Ek tha Tiger’. He also hosts the popular FM show ‘Yaadon ka idiot Box’ on 92.7 FM and runs a rural newspaper ‘Gaon connection’.
